A Love Letter to My Best Friend

Ey, Sé que no te tengo que decir, Pero I'll tell you anyway. I love you. Ayer. Hoy. Siempre. Our connection isn't friendship or sisterhood. It's something more that people say they can't place it. Anything beyond platonic standards MUST be romantic for them, Because they lack the vocabulary in their colonized dictionaries. Like it has to be dressed in bows and ribbons to be understood with their ridgid definitions. Like my love for you can't be as essential, or more important than any love for or from a romantic partner. That being queer or actively poly automatically muddles what we HAVE to be. This society tries to colonize our love, as if it has to fit in one of their boxes to be valid. You are my person, always and forever. Above any them. Above any her. Above any him. Ayer. Hoy. Fear seeping through my, Glitching through my phone. Them begging me to fight. With Panic, I turn to flight My nerves Deleted with every text I always meant to send. Fear seeping through my body. If 2020 were a book, it’d be a final product From endless drafts of chicken scratch Etched with anxious thoughts, Pages soaked in depression. A de cluttering of emotional roller coaster chapters. Sectioned to fears that crept through the castle of my mind, As the paper-thin walls came crumbling down. Stories sprinkled through the pages of people loved and lost, Drown out by the hurricanes of doubt and isolation. Bookmarking the paragraphs of life saving moments, Barely keeping me afloat in a cyclone of loneliness Turning a page of acknowledgement into a chapter of its own. A follow-up that honors the gratuitous moments Where folks and concepts rebuilt the foundation Of my strength, layered brick by brick. A chapter dedicated to the unwritten poems & silenced voices.
